Jamaica House 2012

The O2 Bubble, London.
3 - 12 August 2012.

“A lot of legends, a lot of people, have come before me. But this is my time.”
- Usain Bolt

The planning and execution of this aspiring nation’s first ever Olympic hospitality House was located at the O2 bubble. We were commissioned by the Jamaica Tourist Board, JAMPRO and Jamaica Olympic Association to design, build and manage the Jamaica House during the 2012 Olympics. The summer bought gave Jamaica a lot to celebrate with Usain Bolt’s impressive win in the 100 and 200 metre sprints and it was Jamaica’s 50th Year Anniversary of Independence.

A large black space separated with temporary walls to create a welcoming and flexible destination. The venue had to take on several functions. A welcoming destination. A media space for conducting interviews with athletes and celebrities. A large open area injected with the sound, energy and vibrancy of the colourful nation, for public visitors to enjoy and celebrate.

The large open-plan main space hosted a stage with performances from world class reggae bands, fashion shows and live stand-up comedy. A huge LED screen which showed films and live coverage of Olympic action. Traditional Jamaican food and drink were severed from street foot inspired stalls hosted by key sponsors Red Stripe and Appleton Estate Rum.

The venue walls were washed in blocks of vibrant green and yellow to mimic the Jamaican flag. The space was versatile for the use of business and seminars during the day. Transforming into a celebratory atmosphere in the evening. Chunky colourful furniture was used throughout. Broken up with images of beautiful Caribbean scenery and standing palm trees.

“A lot of legends, a lot of people, have come before me. But this is my time.” "We needed to create an iconic venue to showcase the unique character and allure of Jamaica and it’s all come together so well. The House is an impressive showcase for the country with a tremendous vibe. Thank you for the extensive support you have given the project."
