Creative Event Brief:

This was the third year for the Brit Insurance Design Awards – an annual exploration of the most innovative, interesting and forward looking new work in design of all kinds from around the world. To escalate the awards ceremony to the next level The Design Museum decided to hold the show in the upper gallery of the museum, consulting Timebased for a slicker approach and commissioning M&C Saatchi to generate the significant press coverage needed. The major objectives were to raise the bar on previous awards ceremonies and to ensure that Brit Insurance’s branding and positioning requirements were met. Liaising with the in-house production team on stage and set and also the artists that the Design Museum sourced for the dressing elements was key.

Event Planning & Approach:

Timebased created a slick gallery inspired setting with a striking pink carpet that matched the Design Museum’s brand identity. The carpet led guests through the upstairs gallery space to the dining area and continued up onto the stage where there was a strong and dominant event logo applied to the back wall to create the set. The entire building exterior was lit with a signature pink wash and the Design Museum also commissioned a furniture designer for the media area where the winners were interviewed for TV and press. Sarah Montague hosted the awards ceremony and dinner and an international jury, each with expertise in their respective fields, selected the seven category winners and one overall winner presented by Anthony Gormley for the Brit Insurance Design Awards 2010.

Event Management Results:

The event was awe inspiring and both Brit Insurance and the Design Museum were utterly delighted with the results so much so that the next day Timebased were asked to produce the awards ceremony again for 2011. M&C Saatchi were pleased with the amount of press coverage the awards received compared to previous years.
