D&AD Awards

Creative Event Brief:

D&AD approached Timebased to produce their awards ceremony with an injection of fresh and inspiring new elements to draw away from previous years. The key objectives from the client were to entertain the guests, showcasing the content for maximum impact not only in the awards presentation but in the reception area as well. The event is well respected in the industry and has no external PR objectives, so the main focus and drive was to ensure that the guests experience at the awards ceremony was priority. Timebased were also asked to work alongside D&AD’s other collaborators to produce an on brand event.

Event Planning & Approach:

Timebased created a package to structure the ceremony differently offering a fresh design and styling from previous years. The new concept was based around five large projection screens suspended around the inner circle of The Roundhouse to make use of the historic venue whilst showcasing the content from maximum impact. Comedian Jimmy Carr was selected to present the awards and entertainment for the evening included two bands, Fyfe Dangerfield & Chew Lips as well as DJs and VJs. These acts were introduced to the audience post awards show via a reveal moment when the band stage draping was struck. One of D&AD’s other collaborators devised a creative package which Timebased successfully worked into the event via the styling and catering. This included the reception area which had a white and black theme and lit furniture and bars which added contrasting drama in the darkened venue. An interactive element was introduced to the event by building bespoke iMac plinths to house desktops that allowed guests to view D&AD’s website.

Event Management Results:

The length of the show took considerably less time than previous years which was due to the fast paced structures and editing to the show that Timebased put in place to make the show run at an engaging speed. The event was well attended and the audience were enthralled by the 360 ° experience having a fantastic time and heaping praise on the evening.
